Uttarakhand, a state in northern India crossed by the Himalayas, is known for its Hindu pilgrimage sites. Uttarakhand formerly known as Uttaranchal is a state in the northern part of India. It is often referred to as the "Devabhumi" (literally "Land of the Gods") because of the presence of a multitude of Hindu pilgrimage spots..

On November 9, 2000, the state of Uttaranchal—the 27th state of India—was carved out of Uttar Pradesh, and in January 2007 the new state changed its name to Uttarakhand, meaning “northern region,” which was the traditional name for the area.

According to Pt. Harikrishna Raturi king Bhanu pratap was the first ruler of Panwar dynasty in garhwal who founded chanpur-Garhi as his capital. This was is strongest Garh for the fifty- two garhs of garhwal.

Manabendra (Manavendra) Shah was the last Maharajah of Tehri Garhwal before the princely state joined the newly independent India in 1947. He succeeded to the throne when his father Narendra Shah abdicated throne (on health grounds) on 26 May 1946.

King Sudarshan Shah established his capital at Tehri town and afterwards his successors Pratap Shah, Kirti Shah and Narendra Shah established their capital at Pratap Nagar, Kirtinagar and Narendra Nagar, respectively. Their dynasty ruled over this region from 1815 to 1949.

The East India Company entered Uttarakhand in the year 1814 A.D. They defeated the Gorkhas of Nepal in Almora , the seat of Kumaon in 1814.

Uttarkashi, Tehri Garhwal and Pauri Garhwal have the highest percentage forest cover in the state. These are also amongst the most remote and disadvantaged districts where human pressure on forests is also the maximum.

CHAMPAWAT is the smallest district in uttarakhand with an area of 1781 square km followed by RUDRAPRAYAG and BAGESHWAR with an area 1890 and 2302 square km respectively.

 Dehradun is the most expensive place in Uttarakhand. If you want to live at a place surrounded by snow covered mounains/normal mountains then you can proceed to Pithoragarh,almora,nainital.

Uttarakhand has a diverse geography that includes both high snow-capped mountains and dense tropical forests at lower elevations. The mountains found in the northern region of Uttarakhand are part of the Himalayan Range.

Uttarakhand has abundant natural resources due to hills and forests. ... Uttarakhand is being developed as an 'energy state' to tap the hydropower electric potential of over 25,000 MW. As of November 2019, the state had total installed power generation capacity of 3487.97 MW.

Simply Heaven Uttarakhand or Uttaranchal is known for its natural beauty of the Himalayas, the Bhabhar and the Terai grasslands and savannas. The Simply Heaven on earth, Uttarakhand is often referred to as the Devbhumi or Land of the Gods due to the many Hindu temples and pilgrimage centre.
